Herbert Reed Gardner

Herbert Reed Gardner, 88, of Nampa, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, JoAnne Thompson Grafe Gardner; son Steven (CaraLee) Gardner; daughter Janet (Dennis) Von Forell; son Mark (Janice) Gardner; daughter Kathryn Gardner; daughter Caryl (Terry) Giles; son Jack Lewis; son Marc (Jan) Lewis; daughter Leslie (Carl) Rydalch; son David (Lizet) Lewis; son Nicholas (Laurie) Lewis; 30 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Herb was preceded in death by both parents; one brother; one sister; and his first wife, LaRue. He was born in Logan, Utah on November 1, 1928 and shortly after moved to Colorado, where he attended high school at Ft. Collins High School. Herb loved music and sang in many choirs throughout his life and also played the clarinet. He was an avid scouter, loved camping and served in various scouting positions. Herb served in the U.S Army in WWII and Korea. Throughout his adult life Herb held many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to serve the Lord. He and his wife JoAnne were called on three full-time missions together serving in Salt Lake City, China, and Australia. He also served in the Boise Idaho LDS Temple. One of Herbs favorite callings was serving in the Nampa Family History Center. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nampa 25th Ward LDS Chapel located at 607 West Locust Lane in Nampa, Idaho. A viewing will be held on Sunday, August 13, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa, Idaho.
