Virginia Pena

Virginia Pena, 92, of Caldwell passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 of natural causes. Virginia was born May 20, 1928 in Kemp, Texas to Benigno and Maria Vallejo, the 15th child of a family who ended up with 16 children. She grew up in Laredo, Texas. While in Texas she met Santos Pena, Jr and they were married January 19, 1942 in Crystal City, Texas. Together they travelled as migrant workers until they came to settle in Caldwell, Idaho in 1964. Together they raised 12 children. She was a resident of Caldwell for 56 years. She was a great cook and could be heard singing as she cooked. It is said of Virginia that she made the BEST TAMALES ON EARTH! She loved being a mother and taking care of her children. Traveling and cooking was her favorite pastimes. Virginia is survived by her children: Alicia (Ramon) Pedraza, Irma Pena, David (Lupe) Pena, Oralia (Jesus) Lobo, Sylvia (Martin) Garcia, Noelia (Chico) Gracia and Jerry Rodriquez; 31 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Santos Pena; parents Benigno and Maria; 15 brothers and sisters; daughters: Delia, Amelia, and Yolanda; and two sons Juan and David. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Canyon Hill Cemetery, 2024 N Illinois Ave in Caldwell.
