Stephen Delmar Hennis

Stephen Delmar Hennis, age 93, passed away at his home in Nampa, Idaho on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Steve was born on March 1, 1928 in Nampa, Idaho to Walter and Lucile (Bond) Hennis. He spent his formative years working on their farm in Nampa where he "cultivated" a love for all things farming. He graduated from Nampa High and then served his country during the Korean War fulfilling an assignment with the Army in Germany. Steve married Patricia "Jean" Washburn on November 12, 1953 in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they settled down to farm and eventually raise their daughter and two sons in Nampa. While he was a farmer by trade, Steve had the mind of an engineer. He spent many hours on his tractor thinking about how he could improve the equipment and spent many more hours in his shop building, welding, and making his inventions come to life. He farmed until he was 80 years-old, but never stopped working or inventing. Steve loved his family and friends and spent many hours in their service. Whether it was helping with tractor work, sharing ideas on best practices for irrigating, or telling them about the latest book he read, he loved being with people. He made many friends as a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in many capacities including as a service missionary, a member of the bishopric, and as a member of the high council. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, generosity, service, and his love of country. Steve was preceded in death by son Wayne; parents Walter and Lucile; twin brothers Leland and Leonard; brother Rodney; sister Marion; and son-in-law Wes Miller. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean Hennis; their children KLynn Miller of Nampa and Ron Hennis of Santa Rosa, California; and his sisters Nancy Getter of Bothell, Washington and Margaret Davis of Salt Lake City, Utah. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Bret (Monica) Miller of Nampa, Angie (Mark) Wolthuis of Eagle; Kevin (Casey) Miller of Nampa; Eric (Jenny) Miller of Coeur d' Alene; Katie (Lyle) Garner of Nampa; and by 17 great-grandchildren that have wonderful memories of "Papa Steve" and their time with him at the farm. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 15, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 607 W. Locust Lane in Nampa with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the services. Condolences may be expressed at ZeyerFuneralChapel.com. Memorials may be made to the Boise Rescue Mission or a charity of your choice. Perry Zeyer is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. Topic: Stephen D.
