Elmer Eugene Welker, 94, of Nampa passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022, returning to his family and wife who preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Road in Boise. Arrangements are being provided by Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa. 208-467-7300 Gene was born February 23, 1928, to Albert Wesley and Ethel (Bacon) Welker in Georgetown, Bear Lake, Idaho. The family moved lock stock and barrel to Meridian, Idaho in 1932, where Gene attended Meridian Schools until 1943, when he entered into military services in the U.S. Coast Guard where he remand for two years, and at the end of World War II, he continued to serve for an additional three years in the Merchant Marines. After seeing most of the world through a port hole he came home to attend college at Idaho State in Pocatello for two years. He met his lifelong bride in 1948, and they married on June 2, 1950, in Boise, Idaho and later sealed for Time and All Eternity in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1951, their first son Dana Lee was born, followed in 1952 by another son, Randall Dean, and in 1953, their only daughter Diana Gayle. Gene spent most of his life, from 1950 to his retirement in 2000, in the construction business, building homes, and doing commercial buildings the later 25 years. Gene and Betty were avid fishermen, and were skilled in the use of a bow and arrow. They were both active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gene served in various leadership positions in The Church. Gene's wife preceded him in death on December 8, 2013. He is survived by his sons Dana Lee, of Meridian, and Randall Dean (Lori) of Concord, CA; and his daughter Diana Gayle of Dickinson, N.D. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
