Claire Monde (Mondy) StokerMay 11, 1927 - January 12, 2021 Claire Monde (Mondy) Stoker, 93, of Boise, Idaho passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in a tragic house fire with her "Boyfriend" Charlie Dog. Claire was born May 11, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leora Christensen Alder and David Alton Alder. Claire was the oldest of four children. When she was young, her family lived on a small farm in Egypt, a tiny community in Southeastern Idaho. As a child, Claire loved animals and enjoyed caring for them and helping around the farm gathering eggs and milking the cows. She enjoyed being outdoors playing hopscotch and practicing her driving on the back-country roads. She attended school in a two room schoolhouse and was a good student that loved to read. During WWII when Claire was a teenager, the family moved to Ogden, Utah where her father found work at Hill Air Force Base manufacturing parts that were used to make equipment for the war.In 1944, when Claire was a junior in high school, she attended a Sadie Hawkins dance where she tagged Gene Stoker who was a senior. He became the love of her life. After his graduation, Gene joined the Navy. On June 19, 1945 while Gene was home on leave, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They made their home first in Utah and later moved to Idaho where they raised their five children: Christine, Katherine, Douglas, Arthur and Robin. The family liked to spend time together outdoors water skiing, snow skiing and snowmobiling. Claire was a hard worker and spent many years caring for her home and raising her family. She loved to entertain and cook for family and friends. She was well known for her homemade bread and butter. She enjoyed walking, knitting and crocheting. In 1956, Claire and Gene started Idaho Communications where she worked in the office as office manager until they sold it in 1991. They also opened one of the first snowmobile dealerships in Idaho. Claire was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in numerous Church callings. She was called to serve as a referee for girls' softball and basketball, a temple worker and baptismal co-coordinator for 25 years. She was a member of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots and had her private pilot license to fly small aircraft. After her children were grown, Claire and Gene traveled to Israel several times. They also traveled to Australia, Hawaii, France, Spain and scuba dived in New Zealand. Claire and Gene were happily married for 66 years before Gene passed in 2011.In her later years, Claire enjoyed the companionship of her beloved dogs Charlie and Bernie. She most recently enjoyed riding along with her daughter Robin doing Door Dash deliveries and was amazed at how much Boise had changed and expanded. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Claire is survived by her children: Chris (Gary) Bengochea; Katherine (David) Sibert; Doug (Samantha) Stoker; Art (Genel) Stoker; Robin Dunn; her brother David (Betty) Alder; her sister Lois Alder; 16 grandchildren: Tomasa Bengochea, Alicia Bengochea, Levi (Spring) Bengochea, Leah Bengochea, Mondy (Brian) Myers, Isaac (Nicole) Bengochea, Zane Bengochea; Beth Sandusky, Ali Sibert; Dustin Stoker, Ryan Stoker; Jesse Stoker, Brandon (Lindsay) Stoker, Matt (Chelsie) Stoker, Tyson (Laura) Stoker; Amy Cutter; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Leora Alder; her husband Gene Stoker; her brother Dwaine Alder. A private graveside service will be held at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
