Willman Eugene "Gene" Loosli

William Eugene Loosli, 90, of Nampa passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at a local hospital. Gene was born the son of Orville Lynn and Llewellyn Harris Loosli in Carey, Blaine County, Idaho on July 23, 1926. He was one of 10 children in the Loosli household who grew up in the Carey Valley. Orville and Llewellyn moved their family to the Nampa area in the early 1940's where they built their home off what has now become Greenhurst Road. My grandfather went by a shortened version of his middle name, so most people came to know his as Gene or Brother Loosli. Some may not know of his compassion to serve. As most of the family can testify, if anyone ever needed any kind of help it was nothing for one to call on uncle Gene, grandpa, dad or brother. And he did not just lend help to his family but all that he saw that was in need. I often heard stories of how he would help others during his work as a truck driver for Western Block. He would often help other travelers who were perfect strangers to him by sharing his lunches and/or giving them rides. Although he was in no wise rich by the worlds standards, Gene was rich with the love of family and friends. He may have struggled with various trials in this earthly life but grandpa always did his best to provide for those under his care, be it his family or in his church callings. He always gave all he could of himself. He found pleasure in simple things. He loved rocks and was an avid rock hound. He had no fear and often took his vehicles places that trained professionals feared to go. He could find beauty in nature and would often write volumes of poetry. But I believe he found the most pleasure in visiting with family and friends and sharing stories of past days. In closing may we all be blessed by having known brother Loosli! He touched all our lives; and to me the lyrics of the popular song ring true....."Did you ever know that you're my hero?"
