Jack Edwin Jenkins

Jack Edwin Jenkins passed away on Tuesday, 17 October 2017 at his home at the age of 91. He was born 3 July 1926 in Lapoint, Utah to David Franklin and Nancy Mable Harrison Jenkins. He was the 7th child of 10 children. Jack received his primary education of grades 1-8 in Lapoint and later graduated from Altera High School in a graduating class of 125 students. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He received his basic training in San Diego, California and was later assigned to Commander Fleet Air West Coast where he worked in confidential files. After his release from the Navy, he attended Utah State University for two years. He transferred to Brigham Young University where he graduated with a BA Degree in Education. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina. He returned and received an MA in Methods of Teaching Spanish. While in Provo, Utah he met and married Donna Leavitt in the Manti Utah LDS Temple 23 September 1955. They lived in Provo, Utah for one year before accepting a teaching position in Santa Maria, California. He taught there one year and accepted a teaching position in Concord, California. It was there that their four children were born. While in Concord, Jack received an MA in Supervision and Administration. They later moved to Bellevue, Washington where Jack accepted a teaching position. While in Bellevue, he supervised and trained teachers for early morning seminary for 21 years in addition to his full time teaching position. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Donna, served a mission for the LDS Church in Argentina. When they returned, they sold their home in Bellevue and moved to Nampa, Idaho. They were called on another mission to Madrid, Spain. They also served two local missions with the Spanish Branch and the Employment Resource Center. Jack and his wife volunteered at Mercy Medical Center for five years. Jack also was an Ordinance Worker in the Boise LDS Temple. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters; a son-in-law; a grandson and great-grandson. He is survived by his wife Donna; a son Kirk (Judy); three daughters: Paula (Bruce) Barrett, Julie Ann (John) Averett, and Janice (Brett) Greenhalgh; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and his remaining sister, Frances Lou Wardle. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, 21 October 2017 at the Nampa 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 121 North Canyon RD in Nampa. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, 20 October at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd, Nampa (208-467-7300) and again at the church from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, prior to the services. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 15862 S. Indiana Ave in Caldwell, ID. Condolences may be expressed at zeyerfuneralchapel.com
