Lewis Harringfeld Williams

Lewis Harringfeld Williams, 92, of Boise, Idaho passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family, on December 4, 2018, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Lew was born June 29, 1926, the first born child of Lewis Morris and Clara Harrigfeld Williams in Boise, Idaho. He grew up in the Eastern Idaho area living in Ashton, Rigby and Rexburg. He was Active in 4-H, a state champion in track and lettered in not only in track but also basketball and football. He also played the saxophone in the band. He was a great friend to his younger brother Brian and their dog Tiny Tim. Lew graduated from Rigby High School and then joined the military. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. After his honorable release he attended the University of Idaho and received a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture. He completed a Master's Degree at Oregon State and then served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand. Lew met Betty Ricks and proposed to her on an Easter morning sunrise, overlooking the city of Boise in 1959. They were married June 13, 1960 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Seattle, Washington their first year of marriage while Lew completed Dental School at the University of Washington. After graduation in 1961 they made their home in Boise where he started his own dental practice. They had seven children: Vickie, Annette, LuAnn, Ricks, Karann, Brian, Carolyn. Lew included his family in his practice as all the children spent time working there in the Jr. High and High School years. His wife Betty worked when the office was first opened and then again before they retired. Lew was known for the quality, gentle and compassionate care of his patients. He served as Assistant County Agent in Bonneville County specifically over 4-H. As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served honorably in many callings, from bishopric, home teacher, financial clerk, Sunday School president, and as a Temple worker for 18+ years. Lew was a kind and caring husband and father. He loved to serve others, something his family and friends observed daily. He was a lifelong learner. After retirement he took a master gardening class. He loved gardening and the children joked about how their backyard kept getting smaller and smaller while his garden kept growing larger and larger and how they were the only city kids that rotated crops in their backyard. Lew is survived by his wife Betty; his children: Vickie (John) Smith and their children: Jessica (Sean) Graham, Ariel (Ian) Jameson (son Eli), Bethany (daughter Lana), Josh, Jacob, Sariah, Benjamin and Christanna Smith; Annette (Gary) Glenn and their children: Heston (Celeste) Glenn (their children: Sophia, Connie, Michael Jubilee), R. Harrison (Elizabeth) Glenn (daughter Mila), Hunter Glenn (daughter Lily), Reagan Glenn (Alejandro-Alex) Rios, and T. Jefferson Glenn; LuAnn (David) Hodson and their children Nathanael (Mischa) Hodson and Aurora Hodson; Ricks and his children: Lewis S, Keturah, Justin, Annie, Lindy and Noelle; Karann (Sam) Chew and their children: Amanda Drake (son Kaleb), Scott Drake, Lance (Emma) Drake, Steven Drake, Samuel Drake, and Samantha Chew; Brian (Kristi) Williams and their children: Tabitha, Kenneth, Samantha, Michael; Carolyn (Jeremy) Whitmore and their children: Corey, Nathan, Austin, Ryan and Kaylee; his brother Brian C. (Jodi) Williams; and many more nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, December 15 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6711 Northview St. in Boise. A viewing will be held at the Church, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 14 and again at the Church from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services.
