Obituary Chauncey Carlos Loveland Jr.January 4, 1926 - October 6, 2021Chauncey Carlos Loveland Jr. passed away at home of natural causes on October 6, 2021. He was a long time resident of Nampa, Idaho and liked to be called Carlos. He was born to Lily Larson Loveland and Chauncey Carlos Loveland Sr. on January 4, 1926 in Topance, Idaho. Carlos was the last child and only son of the seven children born to Lily and Chauncey. In 1926 his parents purchased a farm in Nampa, Idaho and moved from Topance, Idaho when Carlos was 9 months old. They brought dairy cattle with them on the train to Meridian, Idaho. The family disembarked the train in Meridian and boarded a bus which stopped one and a quarter miles from their farm on Cherry Lane. The family walked the remaining distance, all except Carlos who was carried in his mother's arms. At the time Cherry Lane, in front of their home, was a dirt road. This would remain his residence until his death at the age of 95 years. Carlos's childhood was a happy one. He liked hunting pheasant, fishing, singing, performing in plays, drama club, boxing, dancing and scouting. Raising cattle, reading history and understanding current and past events were lifetime interests. Carlos attended Elementary School, in a three room school house in Nampa school District 41. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1944. During World War II Carlos tried to enlist in the military but because he was an only son and needed on the farm he was deferred from joining. He loved American and freedom and wanted to serve his country. Carlos married Betty Lou Jordan-Loveland in 1946. They were married 31 years and the parents of six children. After Betty Lou died he married Minnie (Mickie) Pickles-Loveland. They were married 22 years and three children were born. In addition to these nine children Carlos was a step parent to Mickie's five children from a previous marriage. After this marriage ended Carlos married Linda Roy Painter-Loveland. They met at a church singles dance and enjoyed happy times together. In his youth Carlos was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. When he was a very young Boy Scout he was chosen to attend and represent Idaho at a huge scout gathering in Utah on Ensign Peak. This was a profound experience he remembered and treasured. He won awards for his cattle judging and was chosen by the FFA to travel to Chicago, IL to be a judge. Carlos performed in plays whenever possible and savored these times. As a young adult he sang and toured with the "Mormoneers" a men's singing group. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang for special events, often with his first wife, Betty Lou. Driving by car and touring the United States and Canada brought him great pleasure. Carlos enjoyed fishing in Idaho's pure mountain streams, loved camping and hitchhiked across the west. He studied history and world politics. As a dairy farmer, he also sold various produce and especially delighted in cutting and selling holiday Christmas trees and walnuts from Oregon. Uplifting the downtrodden and encouraging others was a gift he quietly offered to those in need of kindness and understanding. Carlos was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a 2 1/2 year church mission to the Northern States beginning in 1949. He was an active High Priest, diligent in missionary work and well versed in the doctrine of Christ. He liked to laugh, sing to his cows and often yodeled while he milked. In the evenings he played his harmonica and in his younger married days sang with the family around the piano, a favorite activity at the end of the day. He relished sharing stories of his pioneer heritage and countless life experiences. Many times for an evening meal or snack he chose bread and milk with honey or sorghum. He loved his family and appreciated the simple things and ways of living. He is survived by his wife, Linda Roy Painter; eight children: Betty Carleen (Greg) Taylor, Russell Carlos Loveland, Donna Jeanette (Leroy) Wilson, Lily Marie Loveland, Heber Chet (Heidi) Loveland, Carl (Joanna) Loveland, Rebecca (Brian) Hurdman and Chauncey Steven Loveland along with four stepchildren: Heather Janke, Natalie Foster, Craig Pickles, and Carol Ekelem.
