Emma "Lucille" Waters

Emma "Lucille" Hogenson Waters, age 95, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 in Meridian, Idaho, following a brief illness. Lucille was the fourth child of five born to Emma Dorthea Jensen and Niels Peter Hogenson in Raymond, Alberta, Canada on August 17, 1925. She attended school in Stirling, Alberta, Canada. The family lived on a large farm where she learned self-sufficiency, thriftiness and developed a good work ethic. After graduating high school, Lucille moved to Provo, Utah, USA and attended BYU-Provo. It was while she was attending BYU-Provo that she met and fell in love with Clifford Ray Waters. They were married for time and all eternity in the Cardston Alberta Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on September 5, 1951. They resided in Provo, Utah where they continued their education and started their family. While in Provo, their family grew to include Bonnie, Lorne, Randall and Larry. In 1956 they moved to Westwood, California to further Clifford's construction career. In April 1957, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called the family on a construction mission where Clifford supervised Church building in Australia and New Zealand. This was an adventure for the whole family as they came to know and love the people of these two great countries. While in Australia, they welcomed Cheryl into their family. In September 1960, the mission was completed and the family embarked on the SS Monterey ship bound for California. Much to Clifford and Lucille's chagrin, their children had many adventures on the ship. The family settled in southern California where Robin and Rob joined their family. Lucille loved her family and was always proud of her children. Lucille loved being a homemaker and providing a loving home environment. She sacrificed comforts to give to her children. She gardened, canned, and baked homemade bread for her family. She excelled in cake decorating and won several awards. It was always a treat to get a cake specially decorated by Mom. She created wedding cakes for her children's weddings. With their family getting older and children moving to other states, it was decided that they would leave California and relocate to Boise, Idaho in 1978 to be closer to children and grandchildren. She had a large family but always made the children and grandchildren feel special. On birthdays, she would send them a card with two dollars ... which was known as the "coveted two dollars" and always looked forward to receiving. Lucille was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many capacities within the church. She worked in the office in the Boise Temple for several years. She loved the gospel and expressed her testimony often through her kindness and charity. Lucille lost her eternal companion, Clifford, on May 4, 1997. She spent the last 23 years as a widow living in her own home until August 2014, when she went to live with her eldest daughter, Bonnie. Bonnie and Jerry selflessly loved and cared for Lucille until her passing. Lucille is survived by her sister, Sherlie Peel; her children: Bonnie (Jerry) Cramer, Lorne Waters, Randall (Jana) Waters, Larry (Connie) Waters, Cheryl (Richard) Hartley, Robin Waters Miller Ozment, and Robert (Shelly) Waters. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of All Care Hospice as well as the staff at Edgewood Spring Creek Memory Care-Boise who oversaw her care with kindness and compassion. With a special thank you to nurse Becky for her extra measure of love and care for Mom. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 31, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1985 N. Black Cat Road in Meridian, with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 AM prior to the services. To watch the services please go to the Ward Link: http://cherrylaneward.org/virtual-meetings
