Elfriede Johnson

Elfriede Johnson was born on September 28, 1924 in Lemany, Germany to Emil and Maria Rohsmannek. During World War II she met her late husband John Johnson when he served in the occupation forces after the war. She traveled by boat to America in 1947. John and Elfriede were united in marriage in Comfrey, Minnesota at the Christian Reformed Church in 1948. They made their home in nearby Sleepy Eye, Minnesota where they raised their daughter Nancy. Elfriede worked many years at the Sleepy Eye Care Center as a cook. She enjoyed spending time outside in her flower gardens, snacking on her favorite gummy bears and drinking coffee with her friends at Messiah Lutheran Church. In 1993, Elfriede was able to travel back to Germany and reunite with her family for the first time in 45 years after the Berlin Wall came down. In 1994, Elfriede and John decided to move to Nampa, Idaho to be near their daughter and her family. It is here were she lived until she peacefully passed at Grace Assisted Living on March 17, 2017. Elfriede was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Henderson and her husband Jeffrey; her grandchildren: Elise (Charlie) Finch, Kallie (Brandon) Ziemer and Meghan (Corey) Wheeler; and two great-granddaughters: Ellie Ziemer and Piper Finch. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 534 West Iowa Avenue in Nampa following the graveside service.
