Patricia Ann Ashley Romer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 81, passed away on Jan. 4, 2020 in Boise, ID.Patricia was born on July 23, 1938 to John Webster Ashley and Sallie Bradley Massey in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She attended Mission High School in San Francisco, CA, but from the age of 16 she was largely self-educated. Her command of the English language was particularly impressive.Patricia charmed the class ring of many school boys with her beautiful dimples, but it was Paul Ray Romer who eventually stole her heart. They married in Lake Tahoe, CA on Sept. 24, 1983. They lived together for 32 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, Central Texas, Central Valley California and Nampa, ID. Their moves were for Paul's employment, but Patricia found meaningful work and activities wherever they lived.Patricia was a skillful administrative assistant. Her career included a role on the 1990 Pulitzer Prize winning team at the San Jose Mercury News for coverage of the aftermath of the 1989 Bay Area earthquake. In addition, she worked with executives in Waco, TX at the Veteran Affairs Regional Office. Patricia's interests included reading, listening to beautiful music, health and fitness, writing poetry, genealogy and serving others. She was always quick to flash her radiant smile, particularly when there was an opportunity to warm a heart, sooth a worried soul or give needed encouragement. Above all she was filled with love and gratitude.As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Patricia served a service mission assisting women in overcoming the effects of various types of abuse or neglect. She served both the youth and women of the church in various leadership callings. For many years she put her administrative skills to work transcribing patriarchal blessings in behalf of the stake patriarch. Her love of the Savior and attention to detail helped make successful the annual Creche Festival in Visalia, which she started and guided through its early years.Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her son, Stephen; and grandson Danny. She is survived by her son Donald; daughter Bobbi (Ted); step-children: Carrie (Dave), Paul (Brandy), Keith (Michelle), Ethan, Mark (Heidi), Lindsey (Alabe) and Adam (Misty); 32 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; sisters Betty Carloss, Wanda Jo Franks and Barbara Curtright; and many nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at The Church located at 11288 Roosevelt Ave in Nampa. Graveside services will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 15862 S Indiana Ave in Caldwell.
