Bonnie Patricia Powell Lindstrom

Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Bonnie Patricia Powell Lindstrom, 97, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. Bonnie was born May 2, 1924, in Perryton, Ochiltree, Texas, to Clyde Henry Powell and Bonnie Bell Spangle. When Bonnie was two years old, her family moved to Darrouzett, Texas, and they lived there until she graduated from elementary school. During her young years she loved sports and participated in softball, tennis and basketball. When Bonnie was 13, her family moved to Homedale, Idaho. She attended Homedale High School and graduated as valedictorian in 1941. After high school she attended Pacific College in Newberg, Oregon, and a business college in Boise, Idaho. After her academic pursuits she decided to serve her country and joined the United States Navy. While in training her group was asked to stand in review for Betty Hutton's movie "Here Comes the Waves". One could say she was a movie star. After her initial training with the Navy, Bonnie was sent to Ohio College in Oxford, Ohio, where she learned Morse code. She utilized these skills at the Radio Communication Center in Bremerton, Washington, to locate Japanese submarines on the West Coast. After three years of service, Bonnie left the Navy and pursued a career in business. She was a secretary at both Beneficial Life Insurance and Boise Cascade. Bonnie met Robert Nickols while serving in the Navy. They were married in 1947, and later had three children: Robert, Shirley, and Pep. Some years later they divorced. In 1971, she met the love of her life, Dick Lindstrom, at a singles dance in Boise, Idaho. There love of dancing turned into an amazing love story. They were married in June of 1972 in Boise, Idaho, and later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Marriage to Dick meant gaining his seven additional children. This blended family became one and had a blessed life together. Bonnie and Dick were married 26 years before Dick passed away in 1998. Bonnie always said, "There was no one better than Dick". The simple pleasures of life brought great joy to Bonnie; she loved to sew, read and play games with friends and family. Bonnie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a fervent testimony of the gospel and its teachings. Over the years she served in most auxiliaries in the Church. But her love of family history was a passion she devoted her life to. She extended this passion and knowledge to others by serving in the Family History Center in Nampa, Idaho. Her love of genealogy was passed down to her children and grandchildren. Bonnie served as a temple worker in the Boise Temple of 10 years and loved serving in the House of the Lord. Bonnie believed in doing what's right and good, being kind, and helping others. The world can always use one more kind person. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Dolores Irene McKenzie; her husband, Harold Richard Lindstrom; sons Robert Raymond Nickols, Hyrum Kenneth Bond, Richard Lindstrom and Lan Lindstrom; and a daughter Shirley Ann Cody. She is survived by daughters; Pep Waite (ElJay), Leeta Hobbs, and Leah Lindstrom; sons Randy Lindstrom (Mondo) and Lane Lindstrom (Elaine); 36 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 9, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Friday, April 8 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel and again from 11:30 to 12:45 PM Saturday, prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers and staff at Lenity Senior Living and Keystone Hospice for the extended kindness they showed to our mother.
