Orval Stanley Mortensen, 97 of Nampa Idaho, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. He was born December 23, 1923 in Sugar Salem, Idaho to parents, Orval P. Mortensen and Janet (Roylance) Mortensen. Stanley graduated from Sugar City high school and later attended the University of Idaho. While there, he enlisted in the Naval Air Corp, he served his country in WWII from 1941 to 1945. Upon returning home he met and fell in love with his eternal sweetheart, Myrtle LaRae Severe. They were sealed on July 17, 1946 in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Stanley & Myrtle returned to the University of Idaho where he received a BS Degree in Agricultural Science. They relocated and lived in Rupert, Idaho for the next 40 years where he farmed, raised Holstein dairy cattle, earned a Masters of Math & Sciences degree from Idaho State University and taught Algebra & Geometry at Minico High School.Stanley & Myrtle moved to Nampa Idaho in 2005 where he enjoyed working for Reynolds Creek Calf Ranch alongside his son, Jon Mortensen until he retired at the age of 95.Stanley loved the gospel of Jesus Christ passionately. He and his sweet companion served a full-time mission in the London South Mission from 1989 to 1991. After arriving home, they served in the Logan Temple for six years before serving a second mission to the Manila Philippines Mission from 1996 to 1998. Stanley was a kind and generous husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He will be remembered for his revered love of his Savior, his intense passion for missionary work, filling his mind with knowledge through countless hours of study in the gospel of Jesus Christ and his devoted love of wife and family.He is survived by his spouse, Myrtle, and his 11 children: Rocky, Paul (Stephanie), Tom (Karen), Roger (Kathy), Bruce (Kayla), Cindy (Doug) Campbell, Jon (Marilyn), Amy (Greg) Cunnington, Shirley (Sean) Kay, Leah (David) Green, Jana (Randall) Waters; 48 grandchildren; 116 great- grandchildren and 4 great- great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandchildren: Adam Green, David Mortensen, Preston Mortensen, Sarah Mortensen, Thomas Mortensen, Angel Mortensen and Ryan King; and son-in-law Doug Campbell.A public viewing will be held Friday, January 22 from 5-7pm at the Happy Valley Chapel, 88 S Happy Valley Rd., Nampa IDA private family funeral service (because of COVID-19 restrictions) will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 23, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3904 E Greenhurst Rd, Nampa, with a viewing from 1 to 1:45 PM prior to the services.
