Fred Lowell Lockey, 95, of Nampa died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at a local care center. He was born Oct. 16, 1921 in Richfield, ID to Fred George and Iona (Ona) Mae Ray Lockey. His family moved to Nampa where Fred attended his years of school. After graduation Fred worked some local jobs in Nampa and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Most of his service was experienced on the island of Attu in the Aleutian Chain in Alaska. Upon his discharge from the service he returned to Nampa and married Betty Jeanne Beus on Aug. 8, 1946. They lived in Nampa for a couple of years, moved to Walla Walla, WA and then back to Nampa where they made their permanent home. Fred worked for Service Parts, both in Nampa and Caldwell, in the Auto field. In his spare time he loved to camp and fish. The couple spent as much time as possible at the cabin in Cascade. Fred also loved to play golf. Animals were a major part of the couple's life. They rescued many dogs and cats to give them a loving home. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty; a sister Reba; and brother George. He is survived by his daughter Julie of Nampa. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13 at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd in Boise.
