Douglas Benzon

Douglas Wynn Benzon, 75, of Nampa, Idaho passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024. Doug was born on September 7, 1948, to Helen Hansen and Joseph Owen Benzon in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He spent his youth on Second Street of Idaho Falls having many adventures with his friends and family. He maintained many of these great relationships from this time in his life. After graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 1967, he was called as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Southern States Mission, serving in Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. He loved his time as a missionary, serving, working hard, and learning to love everyone he met. Upon returning home, Doug was married to the love of his life, Joan Keele, in the Idaho Falls Idaho temple on December 26, 1970. They welcomed daughter Brandi before moving to Rupert for a short time, then making Nampa their home where they welcomed daughters Wendi, Ami, and Karen. Doug was a motivated, hard worker. He had many jobs in his life, including working for the I.D. store in the men's department and for the State of Idaho road crew in eastern Idaho. His quest for learning led him to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Boise State University in 1985 and a micro master’s in business administration in 1993, all while he continued to work full-time. He became the first Economics and Research Manager for the State of Idaho Transportation Department when that position was created. Doug worked on innumerable projects directly for ITD, federal committees, Idaho legislature, and gubernatorial programs, finally retiring with Joan in 2012. Serving in countless volunteer positions, particularly in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Doug found great joy as bishop for the Nampa 6th ward, executive secretary in the Nampa Idaho stake, ward mission leader, elders quorum president, teaching Sunday school, ward and stake clerk, and as a service missionary at the Family History Library and in the Boise Temple. He particularly found happiness in building personal relationships with those he served. Doug firmly believed in finding the one and amid laughter, jokes, service, and heartfelt discussions, helping them along their earthly path. Doug is preceded in death by his daughter Wendi Ann Benzon, parents Joseph Owen and Helen Benzon, and his siblings Shannon Cole, Steven Benzon, and Judith Benzon. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan Keele Benzon, daughters Brandi, Ami (Ryan Saylor), Karen (Brent Goldthorpe), grandchildren: Kiara, Kyson, Wendi, Hailie, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Ainslei, and Samantha, and many other, much-loved, family members. A viewing will be held at Zeyer Funeral Home, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa on March 22, 2024 from 6pm to 8pm. Another viewing will be held 9:00am on March 23, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11288 W. Roosevelt Ave in Nampa, followed by funeral services at 10:00am.
