Dixie Steen

Dixie Lee Steen,96, of Melba passed away Saturday March 09,2024 surrounded by family. Dixie was born Nov 29,1927 in Belleville, Kansas to Malcom Kirk and Emma May Overstreet. She was their first child followed by sisters Ada Ann, Fern Marie & Janice Elaine and brother James Thomas Overstreet. At the age of two and half she and her family moved to S.W. Colorado, the Cortez area, where her family dry farmed. Eking out a bare existence until moving to Kuna, Idaho in January 1942. Attended High School in Kuna until marrying Alton Steen on July 15,1944. They moved to Melba until Alton left for the Navy in April of 1945. In August their only child Kenneth was born in Nampa. She leaves behind their son Ken and daughter in law Mariann of Boise, Idaho and Jan Myers of Montana. Five grandchildren: Jeff & Susan of Oregon, Trina & Chris of Florida, Lisa & Pat of Caldwell, Tom & Betsy of Boise, and Steve & Candy of Nampa; 13 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; one sister Janice & Leslie Paustian of Heppner, Oregon; and children of her heart Karla & Greg Hetzel of Melba, Idaho and Lynn Weisen of Madras, Oregon; and also, many nieces and nephews. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alton; sister’s Fern & Ada and brother Jim. Dixie & Alton were endowed and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 3, 1980. She worked with Alton in the businesses they owned, two restaurants, several service stations and a petroleum bulk plant. After Alton’s health made it a necessity to sell the businesses Dixie went back to school and then worked for Lloyd Lumber Co, Gem Fuel Co, Marshall Gill and Heazle and later for Corbett, Rands and Tarter Associates. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to The Melba Senior Center. Funeral services will be held 11am Friday March 15th at The LDS Church in Melba 112 Randolph Drive Melba, a viewing will be held at 10am prior to the service. A viewing will also take place from 6-8pm Thursday March 14th at Zeyer Funeral Chapel.
