Born in 2006 at St. Luke's Boise, Grover Michael Loening (Michael) spent his early years in Cascade where he learned to ride horses and gained an appreciation for Idaho and life in the country. Later on, his family moved to Boise for elementary and junior high, and then on to Melba for high school. Along that journey Michael was able to make many great friends with his infectious personality and playful energy. From hunting and horses, to cars and Call of Duty, he had something in common with almost everyone he met and was always ready to help a friend/family member or have a good time. Beyond his hobbies, Michael spoke fluent Spanish and was a burgeoning mechanic–often taking things apart and reassembling them to better understand how they worked. As he got older he was able to travel the world with two trips to Europe and one trip to Mexico all before he even turned 18. After high school Michael had dreams of learning to fly and wanted to become an airline pilot. On Saturday April 20th while driving home from work, Michael collided with another car and was killed in the accident. He lived more life in his 17 years than most people do in their entire lifetime. His absence will always be felt, but the impact he made will enrich us forever. Michael is survived by his mother Christie, his father Mark, stepmother Tenaya, step-brothers Russell & Wyatt, and grandparents Marilyn and Ralph. A service will be held at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Boise on Friday, April 26 at 2:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Melba High School Commons on Friday, May 3 at 10:00am.
