Joyce Hughes

Joyce Judy Hughes Joyce Judy came into the world on July 21, 1946, in the serene town of Mitchell, South Dakota, born to the esteemed Virgie Merle and William Robert Pike. Occupying the eighth slot among her nine siblings, comprising 5 females and 4 males, Joyce was part of a family where the eldest and youngest were separated by a remarkable 23-year gap. In a quiet ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 15, 1964, she united in matrimony with Gerald Lee Hughes, with whispers in the air that their paths crossed during a captivating roping event. They were later sealed for eternity at the Los Angeles Temple in California on April 20,1974 Their union welcomed four remarkable souls into the world: • Adelle Marie, born on September 13, 1964 • Gerald Lee "Jr," born on October 2, 1967 • Robert Maurice, born on November 5, 1970 • Dale Vyren, born on March 29, 1976 Tragedy struck the family when Adelle passed away in January 1987 under mysterious circumstances, leaving a void in their hearts. Gerald "Sr" bid farewell to this world in July 2015, marking the end of an era filled with shared memories and experiences. Despite her complexities, Joyce found solace in various pursuits. Her interests ranged from familial bonds to solitude, creating a dichotomy that defined her character. An avid bowler, Joyce frequented the lanes with her siblings and mother, culminating each game with a visit to the Salvation Army—a tradition that sparked her love for thrift shopping. Beyond the alleys, she found joy in the adrenaline of racing and the chaos of demolition derbies, showcasing a side unbeknownst to many. Her adventurous spirit led her to embrace the outdoors through camping, fishing, and swimming, punctuated by the excitement of attending Angel baseball games. A pillar of support for her children, Joyce's unwavering presence at their athletic endeavors painted a picture of dedication and love, a constant in their lives. Immersed in the fabric of her community, Joyce dedicated herself to church camp activities, relishing the opportunity to mentor and engage with young minds. Her legacy lives on through her 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, a testament to the love and memories she etched in their hearts. As she departed this world, Joyce reunited with her parents, three brothers, three sisters, as well as her beloved Gerald and Adelle, leaving behind a tapestry of cherished moments and unforgettable experiences.
