Alfonso Isi

Alfonso (Al) Isi, our beloved husband and father, passed away July 8, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Ophir, Utah, to Antonio and Ines Filippi Isi. He was a loving husband, father and friend, always willing to help anyone in need. He was the second youngest of 10 children. Al was raised in Ophir, where he started working at a very young age to help support his family. He had a lot of jobs throughout his childhood and teen years, from delivering newspapers, construction labor, railroad worker, mining, etc., until he was drafted into the Army in 1959. Prior to going into the Army he married the love of his life, Lalla Holtzman in Las Vegas. After she graduated she joined him in New Orleans where he was stationed for 18 months. During that time he was deployed to Greenland. While he was in Greenland, Lalla returned to Ophir to deliver their first child, Tammy. Lalla and Tammy later rejoined him in New Orleans. When he was discharged in 1961, they returned to Ophir to start their new life together. He was later drafted back into the Army to serve another year, stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington. After his second discharge in 1962 he returned to Ophir and went to work at Tooele Army Depot. In 1964 they had their second child, Terry and in 1966 they moved to Tooele. He continued working at Tooele Army Depot until he retired after 38 years of government service. After retiring Al and Lalla started snow birding in Arizona for 10 years where they made wonderful friends and memories. Al enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, morning walks up to five miles a day, occasional trips to Wendover, playing cards and visiting with friends. In 2021 they moved to Nampa, Idaho, to be near their daughter. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Lalla, daughter Tammy (John) Elorriaga, nieces, nephews, cousins, great friends, and his beloved dog Pumpkin. Al is preceded in death by his son Terry, his parents; sisters Erminia, Esolina and Emma; brothers John, Lawrence, George, William, Dominick, and Tony. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 12, at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, Utah. Viewing will be 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Tooele City Cemetery.
