Nona McKay of Nampa, Idaho, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, with her beloved husband, Don, by her side. Throughout her life, she was a shining light to those around her, brightening the lives of family, friends, and the children in her care through her love, laughter, and selfless service. She always had a smile on her face and loved life. Born on February 27, 1936, in Anaconda, Montana, Nona was the fourth of five children. She was raised in the small town of Darby, Montana, and enjoyed cheerleading and playing the clarinet during her high school years. She had a love for music and dancing, a famously loud whistle, and a yodel that later entertained her kids and grandkids. With her husband, Don, Nona took pride in raising and caring for her six children. She was skilled at embroidery, sewing, and making baby dolls. These talents were often used to create handmade gifts that her loved ones will forever cherish. Always serving those in need, Nona had a big heart with love to spare. She fostered over 100 children and was especially good with babies and those with disabilities, being sought out to care for them until they could be placed in loving families. She had a soft spot for naughty kids who made her laugh and loved to dote on them. Nona was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life and found joy in serving the women and children of the church in many capacities. She was sealed to Don in The Boise Idaho Temple, where they served regularly together in her later years. Nona was deeply loved and is survived by her husband, Don; her children and their spouses, John (Dixie) Wilcox, Cindy (John) Lerma, Kathy (Tim) Brant, Shane (Lisa) Wilcox, Sheila (Ryan) Christensen, and Amber (Brett) Hatrock; and her 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Duane Campbell and Iola Bybee; her sisters, Jody Coco and Marian Calderon; her brothers, Kirby and Danny Campbell; and her daughter, Mandy Kersey. A graveside service commemorating Nona’s life will be held on Monday, August 26th, at 11:00 a.m. at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, 76 6th Street North, Nampa, Idaho.
