George Maier

George E. Maier passed away on September 1, 2024, in Nampa, Idaho. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 9, 1946, to George A. Maier and Katherine R. Reisz. George was one of 6 siblings which included four sisters: Diane, Virginia, Eileen and Kathy; and one brother, Mike. He attended St. Genevieve High School graduating on June 4, 1964, before joining the U.S Airforce on July 15, 1964. George had a great fondness for aircraft and his dedication to service to this country was one of many great accomplishments. George met the love of his life in 1964 prior to his enlisting with the U.S Air Force. Sandra states her best memory is her wedding day to George. "It was a very special day and time in my life. I got to marry the man of my dreams". Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married on May 11, 1968. They just celebrated 56 years of marriage. George was blessed with two children, Kelly and Kim, along with several grandchildren. His grandchildren adored him, and they affectionately referred to him as Doc. His grandchildren shared some of their favorite memories with Doc: Taylor Bentley loved bowling and going with Doc to the hobby shop. Tanner Bentley loved bowling, cars and hanging with Doc. Kaylee Bentley loved helping Doc whenever he needed help. James Lahey loves drawing and loved eating McDonald’s pancakes with Grandma and "Doc". George’s favorite role as a grandparent was spending time with the grandkids. He treasured and adored time with all his grandkids and absolutely loved being called "Doc". He never failed to make sure he brought the grandkids candy, but most of all, Doc loved watching his grandkids bowl. George had many friendships which included: Charlie Sullivan AKA "Chocolate Charlie" who was the best man at George and Sandra's wedding; Horace White and many other coworkers; Glen of Burbank House of Hobbies; and an awesome neighbor and friend, Craig, when George moved to Idaho. George was passionate about his job at DCMA. He worked for the company for 52 years. At the time of retirement, George held the record for longest employment. He had made it known that he had a wish to have a flag that was flown over the White House. At retirement that wish was granted when he was presented with an award and such a flag! George loved baseball, bowling, playing solitaire, listening to music, and cataloguing things he loved. Everyone who knew him also knew how much he loved to collect aircraft models and diecast cars. On Saturdays, he enjoyed going to Burbank House of Hobbies. George will always be remembered for his dedication to this country, and his love for his family. We couldn’t have asked for a better spouse and father. We will miss Doc every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. George Maier was preceded in death by his parents, George A. Maier and Katherine R Maier, and brother Mike Maier. He is survived by: Sandra Maier, Kim Maier, Kelly (Garnet) Bentley, Taylor Bentley, Tanner Bentley; and 4 sisters: Eileen, Diane, Virginia, and Kathy.
