Patricia Green

Patricia LaMar Hougaard Green, known as "Patzy" (spelled "Patz") to her family and friends, was born April 30th, 1934 in Gooding, Idaho, to young parents Alta Mae Blackburn and Pat LeRoy Hougaard. Patz's childhood was divided between being raised by her grandparents and living with her mother, always greatly missing those she was separated from. She attended numerous schools in various towns and states before graduating Buhl High School in 1952. She then chose to enjoy taking "fun classes" an additional year, while also working and saving her money. In 1955, Patz married her high school sweetheart, Jack Green, also of Buhl. They were sealed at the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. The couple settled in Boise and together were blessed with three daughters, then moved to Nampa in December 1960. Two sons were welcomed into the family, and they all moved to Melba in April of 1973. Since childhood, Patz had been exceptionally creative and artistic. She developed her talents in violin, clay sculpture, drawing, painting, ceramics, upholstery, furniture refinishing, sewing, knitting, candy making, and home decor. She used her skills to uplift and benefit her family and dear ones. Patz was also appreciated for her lovely alto singing voice and her clever sense of humor. After divorcing in 1976, Patz prepared to return to work. She began with Emergency Medical Training, then enrolled in nursing school. She earned her credentials as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at the Idaho State School and Hospital for many years, serving with compassion those who could not serve themselves. She always worked the night shift so that she could be more available to her family. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Patz served in many capacities. In her later years, she especially enjoyed calling to visit her Relief Society sisters. She genuinely cared for others. Patz's greatest service was to her family. She taught her children by example, emphasizing "love at home", kindness, creativity, learning, resourcefulness, thrift, preparedness, self reliance, tenacity, resilience (and chocolate!) She encouraged and helped each of her sons and daughters along their individual paths for as long as she lived. All of her grandchildren were dearly loved. In September of 2019, Patz suffered a stroke, which limited her abilities. She was lovingly cared for by her daughter Nancy in Boise, Idaho, until the day of her death, September 17th, 2024. Patz was preceded in death by her parents, her children's father Jack Green, her grandson Patrick, and her son David. Those surviving Patz are her sisters Linda, Kitty Sue (Dennis), Millie, Lura and her brother John, along with her children Jacki (Mark), Nancy (Jay), Shirley, Daniel (Tom) and daughter-in-law Kim. Survivors also include nieces, nephews, 21 grandchildren, 34+ great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. "Grandma Patz" is greatly loved and dearly missed by all ♡
