Ila Fern Cherrington was born in Nampa, Idaho, on July 3, 1932, to Ina and Lloyd Day. She passed away on September 22, 2024, in Nampa, Idaho. Ila was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a devoted Christian and spent much time in prayer. She lived in Nampa, Idaho until she was in elementary school, when she moved to Union Gap, Washington with her parents. Ila graduated from Yakima High School. She married Del Cherrington in 1952 and worked for the city and county of Yakima, Washington at various times during her professional career. Del and Ila had three children: Michael, their first son, died at nine days old; and Kevin, their youngest child, died in 2017. She is survived by her daughter, Colene, Colene’s husband John Montgomery, grandchildren Charice McClaskey, Casey Cherrington, Aaron Montgomery, and Jason Montgomery, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.Ila retired from the City of Yakima in 1987. She and Del moved to Nampa in 1989, and she moved to Streamside Assisted Living in 2019 after Del’s passing. Ila maintained a powerful love for her family and friends, as well as a love for music, despite the dementia she experienced at the end of her life.
