Joyce White

Joyce Lorene Sackett White was born October 25,1940 in Olympia WA to Marguerite Elizabeth Reeves Sackett & Charles Walter Sackett. Her mother died before she was 2 years old. Her father remarried Lois W. Buchanan Hungerford who had a son,Robert,about 9 months younger than Joyce. Lois later adopted Joyce when she was 13 years old. At the same time she was adopted by Lois,her brother Robert,by Lois's first marriage was adopted by her father. Joyce joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when she was 12 years old and she belonged to the Boise Northview Ward. She was active in the church at the time of her death, having served in various capacities of the Relief Society,Sunday School and the Young Women's Organization. Joyce attended Olympia High School and graduated in 1958 and then worked for a few months for the State of Washington. Joyce joined the US WAVES in November 1958 served in the U.S. Navy (WAVES) as a Medical Technician until August 1961when she was honorably discharged. She attended Recruit Training in Bainbridge,MD then Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes,IL She was then transferred to Washington ,DC when she worked in the Navy Dispensary. During the time she served in Washington,D. C. she enjoyed memories of visiting the historical monuments and sights nearby of historical interest. She enjoyed remembering attending one of the many Inaugural Balls held for President John F. Kennedy and for having met many dignitaries in the Washington area,one of whom was Admiral Hyman Rickover,father of the nuclear Navy. She then transferred to the Navy Hospital in St.Albans,Ll,NY to attend operating Room School. It was here she met and married her husband Lynn Edward White, of Buffalo NY. He was also serving in the Navy where both were stationed at the Naval Hospital in St. Albans,Ll, NY. They were married June 3,1961in St. Albans,Long Island,New York. Later their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LOS Temple in August 1970. Joyce and Lynn had 4 children,Cheri Lyn Pulliam, Lori Renee Hoitt and Catherine Elizabeth Aggson and son Russell Charles White and together have15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Joyce loved her children dearly and all the grandchildren and great grands were so special to her. Joyce returned to work after her children were all in school and worked for Boise Orthopedics for 2 years and then for the State of Idaho,Bureau of Occupational Licenses for 5 years and the Department of Correction,for 13 1/2 years. Joyce is also survived by 3 sisters,Barbara May of Bremerton, WA,Cathleen (Cathy) Rowland of Lynwood Washington and Viki Osterhout of Burley, Idaho and 2 brothers Robert Sackett, residing in South Carolina and Michael Sackett,of Lacey, WA. She was preceded in death by her sister Belva June Forbes. Joyce enjoyed a variety of hobbies and collected and built dollhouses and miniatures. She also had a big collection of bears and toys and owls. She enjoyed a lot of crafts, crocheting, counted cross stitch, crewel and other embroidery,tole painting and tap dancing.She enjoyed reading and collected a vast amount of books over the years, some of which were signed by the author. She belonged to a literary reading group at Barnes & Noble bookstore. Over the years she developed a love for Classical and Baroque music and more especially Mozart. She enjoyed learning new things and enjoyed the association of many friends. Later when forced into disability and an early retirement from the state she took an interest in oil painting. She also enjoyed working at the Humanitarian Center at Deseret Industries one day a week for 6 Yz years where she enjoyed the friendship of others who worked there. She would like to be remembered as being and honest and straight forward person and for treating others fairly and she hoped that she possessed a charitable attitude toward others.She loved diversity of cultures,religions and ethnic origins. And she would like to let her children and grandchildren and especially her husband know that words and actions never expressed entirely just how much she loved them all.
