Val Taylor passed away on July 23, 2016 at home in Nampa, Idaho. Born on February 3, 1928 to William Aquilla Taylor and Edna Verba Child Taylor in Ogden, Utah. He was one of two children. He married Geneese Cahoon on December 12, 1951 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Val and Geneese had six children, 21 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Geneese; his mother and father; and his oldest daughter Sheryl. He is survived by his children: Richard (Rick) and Linda Taylor of Etna, WY, Valory and Russ Kennedy of Nampa, ID, Bart and Julie Taylor of Etna, WY, Melanie and Rick Jacobs of Eagle, ID and Layne Taylor of Boise, ID; and his sister Aileen Lake of Sandy, UT. Val grew up living on a ranch in Grover, WY. He was very involved in the ranch. He was responsible for feeding the cattle, milking the cows, cleaning the barn and attending to the stock and shoveling snow. He was active in basketball, football, almost made it to Golden Glove boxing, skiing and loved sleigh riding with his dog. After marrying Geneese, he moved to Pocatello, ID and worked for his father-in-law Roscoe Cahoon in construction. Years later he had his own construction company, Empire Construction, for 35 years and a Polaris snowmobile shop next door. He retired, then was contracted by the school system to be the General Contractor in building schools. He retired again and then worked with Ashley Manor Homes. He later became the General Contractor for building those homes in Idaho, Oregon and Colorado. At age 75 he retired again to take care of his wife until she passed away in 2005. That year he couldn't bear to be in his home without his wife so he sold it and moved in with Valory and Russ. This gave him more freedom to take off and do his favorite things. He spent many summers in Etna, WY staying with his son Rick, where he fished with him, his son Bart and his grandkids. He owned a boat and couldn't wait for summers to come. Val was very much a family man and a great example, he loved his fishing, western movies on TV, horses, and Werther's caramels. His family would like to thank all those who gave such loving care to our father and grandfather during his illness. The family will be receiving friends and loved ones on Friday July 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa. Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30 at the LDS Chapel located at 3007 Sunnyridge Rd in Nampa with a graveside service to follow in Pocatello, Idaho, at the Mountainview Cemetery at 4:00 p.m.
