Gerald Lee Harper

Gerald "Jerry" Lee Harper, 88, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016. Jerry was born January 10, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Clarence and Wilma Harper. He married Freda Gipson on April 12, 1952. Jerry had two careers, the first working for American Airlines for 21 years in San Diego, and Los Angeles. Jerry graduated from San Diego state with a Bachelor's degree in geology, and later became a soil testing engineer using his geology background from college. Jerry retired from H.V. Lawmaster while living in Stanton, California. In 2006, Jerry & Freda relocated to Nampa, Idaho. Jerry remained faithful to the Lord until his passing, attending the Church of Christ in Anaheim and Boise. He loved to sing acapella, singing tenor. The highlight of his week was being able to attend services, while living in the Holly nursing home, getting the care he needed from nursing assistants. The VA benefits Jerry earned serving our country made it possible for Jerry to remain home with Freda until the last year. Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Freda; four children; 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m., after the services, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Road in Boise. Military honors will be presented there.
