Ora Gene Port

Ora Gene (Poulton) Port died quietly the evening of August 15, 2014 at her home in Nampa, Idaho of causes relating to age. She was 89. She was born December 12, 1924 to William Hyrum and Lulu Pearl Garrard Poulton in Oakley, Idaho. She grew up with five brothers: Samuel, Norman, James, David, Roger; and two sisters Rachel, and Elaine. She graduated from Oakley High School. She met Garnett Russell Port at a Mutual activity in Oakley, Idaho. They were married June 28, 1942 in Oakley, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 17, 1947. Russell joined the Army Air Corps during WWII and served nearly three years overseas in England and France. Russell and Gene started their family just prior to World War II. Ora Gene was the loving mother of Kay, Scott, Barry, Tony, Gaya, Vicki, and Samuel. Her life was a life of service. She also taught her children the value of work thru example. Due to professional work assignments, Ora Gene and Garnett Russell lived in various locations throughout the country, including Oakley, ID, Pocatello, ID, Moscow, ID, Wenatchee, WA, Pittsburgh, PA, Alcoa, TN, Colville, WA, and Nampa, ID, making friends all along the way. She was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various positions in several organizations. Two of her favorite callings were being a historian for Wenatchee Ward and Relief Society compassionate service. She loved taking meals to those in need. Her husband Garnett Russell, sons Scott and Barry and grandson K. Shane preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Russell Kay (Glenda) Port, Tony (Sharon) Port, Gaya (Steve) Butterfield, Vicki (Ted) Moon, Samuel Todd Port, and 24 grandchildren. Interment will be at the Oakley, Idaho cemetery on Tuesday, August 19 at 2:45 p.m. A viewing will be held at the LDS Chapel in Oakley on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. A short memorial will be held in the Relief Society Room at 2 p.m. with burial following.
