Margene L. Higgs

Margene Louise Higgs, 92, of Nampa passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at a local hospital. Margene, to be known as "Mom" was born to Henry and Ella Hansen Crow on July 2, 1923 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. In 1928, the family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1934, her father bought a farm on Highway 30, about three miles west of Twin Falls. This became "home" to Margene and the place of many happy times and memories for her family. Mom attended a one-room country school house in Curry, graduated from Twin Falls High School and attended Idaho Southern University, now known as Idaho State University. In 1941, while at the university, mom met her future husband Larry, but it was not until 1946 that they were married as Larry served in the Navy, in both the Pacific and European Theatres in WWII. After a short stay in Arco and Blackfoot, in 1947, Mom and Dad and their first son Gregg moved to Nampa. The family grew to five with the addition of David and Mark. In 1968, Mom discovered the game of golf and it became her passion in life. After Dad retired, Mom played even more golf! Mom and Dad played in tournaments all over the Northwest. Only after her eyesight began to fail did Mom retire from the game. Mom was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Ella Crow and Larry, her husband of 61 years. She is survived by her three sons: Gregg, David (Carrie) and Mark (Dianna); grandchildren: Patrece (David) Mansisidor, Katelyn (Don) Petersen, Kevin (Haley) Higgs and Brian Melcher; and great-grandchildren: Ryan and Kiera Mansisidor and Kaylee Petersen. Mom and Dad had followed all of their sons' sporting events over the years and continued to do so, following Katelyn, Kevin, Rayn and Kiera, their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren's activities for many years. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 15862 South Indiana Ave in Caldwell. A viewing will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 31 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa. (467-7300) Condolences may be expressed at zeyerfuneralchapel.com.
