Vera Marie Six Guches passed away on January 11, 2016 at home in Nampa. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 19, 10:00 a.m. at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mom had just turned 93 before she left us. She led a long, productive life, came from a large family, and created a large family. She was born in Broadwater, Nebraska on December 19, 1922 to Wilson Six and Laura Norris Six. One of 10 children, she grew up on farms in Nebraska and graduated high school at Bridgeport. After high school, she joined her parents who had relocated to Medford, Oregon. In Medford, mom found work and met Glenn W. (Bud) Guches whom she married in 1940 (and later divorced). The couple moved to Applegate, Oregon where they lived for 20 years. Of that union were born eight children: Larry, LaVerne, Jim, Sandy, Patrick, Bryan, Mike, and Jeff. Patrick predeceased his mother in 2010. Larry is married to Sue Stone and LaVerne to Tony Wieczorek. Mom's primary goal in life was to keep her family together. She accomplished that. In 1959, Mom moved with her children to Nampa. There, with the help of grandparents, uncles and aunts, new neighbors and friends, they established a new home. At that time, mom supported her family by working in food processing plants and in the fields. In 1968, after attending barber school in Boise, she established Vera's Barber Shop in Nampa. Mom then had a career that she absolutely loved and which spanned 26 years. She had a huge customer base. Many of Nampa's boys got their first haircuts at Vera's Barber Shop. Mom loved to fish. Stream fishing, lake fishing, ocean fishing, any kind of fishing. In her retirement years, summers were spent at the SISCRA camp near Donnelly. She made many friends there. She liked to laugh and play little tricks on people. She loved coffee and her "coffee buddies." Mom practiced what she preached: "Be friendly to everybody." Besides her children, mom is survived by two sisters, Joan Yates of Nampa and Dorothy Jimerson of Palm Desert, California, numerous nieces and nephews, countless friends, and her special caregiver, Shari Kettering. She also leaves a cherished granddaughter, Heather, who is married to Chase Nelson, and great granddaughters Kiele and Kaya. John Alcorn has also been an important part of her family. Life was not easy for mom, but she always persevered. Her legacy to her children is one of strength, honesty, and patriotism.
