Ruth Elizabeth (Betty) Maynard opened her brown eyes on August 7, 1922 in Cybur, Mississippi. She closed them for the last time on October 19, 2014, when she joined her beloved husband, Dan. Betty was the youngest child of Ruth Hall and James Fullerton Davis. Her parents and her siblings: James, Jessie Mae, Ralph and William all pre-ceded her in death. During the 1930s, the family moved to Fossil, Oregon. Betty started college at Oregon State, but as with so many of her generation, WWII interrupted her goal of becoming a medical doctor. On November 16, 1942, she married her high school sweetheart, Dan Ellsworth Maynard. After the war, they settled in Cle Elum, Washington and started a family. During their life together, they lived in Western, Central and Eastern Oregon as well as Arizona, finally settling on a ranch near Monument, Oregon. Betty was active in many social and cultural groups. She was an Oregon Master Gardener and served on the Oregon Farm Bureau legislative commitee and was a founding member MAKE for the Monument area. She loved the theater and music, encouraging her children to participate in these activities. In her youth she was also an avid competitor in tennis, fencing and skiing. Betty is survived by her children: Katherine Ann (Clyde), Dan E.II (Valerie), and Marc Christopher (Lindy); three grandchildren: Desiree, Rose Lynn and David; and four great grandchildren: Shamayil, Elle Rose, Justice and Hayla; step grandchildren: Neva Noe, Roni Hickerson, Eric Towers, Nichole Towers, Michael Luttrell and Mikayla Luttrell; step great-grandchildren: Sierra Cates, Austin Cates, Grace Noe, Gabriella Noe, Lilly Towers, Karma Towers and Angelo Towers. Betty's wish was to be reunited with Dan. Their ashes will be mingled and spread near their former ranch. There is no public service planned. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monument Senior Center.
