David E. Lake

David Earnest Lake, 93, died on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Grace Assisted Living Center where he had resided since 2005. David was born on February 13, 1921 in Buhl, Idaho, the eldest child of David Boyce and Bessie Peterson Lake. David started school in Buhl, moved to Conrad and Kalispell, Montana with his parents and siblings during the Great Depression before returning to Idaho in 1933. David completed his education at Emmett High School in Emmett, Idaho. He worked at a variety of agricultural jobs in Gem County, assisting the family with his income through the balance of the 1930's. On Valentine's Day in 1942 David met Ida Fenicottero at a community dance in Fruitland. Even though both had come to the dance with another partner, after spending the evening dancing, they left together. They were married 7 months later in Letha, Idaho on Sept. 10. David had been called to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corps. in the European theater and left his new wife after only three weeks of marriage. He trained as a flight engineer aboard a B-17 and flew 36 missions over Germany prior to D-Day. Following his European service, he returned stateside and was re-united with his wife in Texas where their first child, a daughter, Carol , was born in Amarillo in 1945. David completed his military service and returned to New Plymouth, Idaho where his two boys, Glenn and Allen were born in 1947 and 1950. David began his career with Idaho Power Company in 1948, working on a mobile construction crew throughout southern Idaho and eastern Oregon. He settled his young family in Gooding, Idaho where he worked as a lineman and troubleman for 7 years before transferring to Oakley, Idaho as a district serviceman for 5 years. He was promoted to a line-crew foreman in the WoodRiver Valley of central Idaho where he worked for 9 years. During his final years with Idaho Power Company, he worked as the line crew foreman in Caldwell, Idaho, retiring in 1983 after 35 years with the Company. Following retirement, David and Ida moved to Middleton and began spending their winters in southern California and southern Arizona. For 9 years they were snowbirds, returning to Idaho to spend the summers and falls with family and friends. Their final move came in 1996 when they bought their first "new" home in Nampa. In 2005 David and Ida sold their home and moved into Grace Assisted Living in Nampa so that Ida could receive assistance with her newly-diagnosed Alzheimer's disease. Ida died in the fall of 2008 after being married to David for 65 years Later, David met Marilyn Records, also a resident of Grace Assisted Living. David and Marilyn were married in June of 2009 and were married for two years prior to Marilyn's death in 2011. David was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Alvin (Bud) and Wayne; an infant sister, Mary; numerous relatives and friends and his faithful canine companion "Skip." He is survived by two sisters May Green of Tucson, Arizona, Leona Fritts of Reno, Nevada, and a brother Lyle of Ontario, Oregon. He is also survived by his three children: Carol (Robert) Bedke of Oakley, Glenn (Susan) of Meridian and Allen of Atlanta, Idaho; 9 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces and his dear friends at Grace Assisted Living Center: Louise Clayton, Richard Roberts and Dave Needham. A celebration of David's life will be held at Zeyer Funeral Chapel at 83 N. Midland, Blvd. in Nampa, Idaho on Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m. A viewing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday also at Zeyer Funeral Chapel just prior to the service. A graveside dedication and internment with military honors will be held at the Basin Cemetery in Oakley, Idaho on Saturday, May 17 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, friends are requested to make donations to a veteran's charity of their choice. The family wishes to thank the management and staff at Grace Assisted Living Center at 250 S. Allumbaugh in Boise, the doctors and staff at the Boise Veteran's hospital and the staff at Encompass Hospice for their compassionate care and service to David.
