Jerald Clifford Montgomery, age 94, passed away from natural causes on October 1, 2014, at the home of his daughter, Kathryn Smith in Meridian, Idaho. Cliff, as he was known to most people, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. He was born May 3, 1920, in Antelope, Idaho, and was the oldest of ten children born to Jerold Stevens Montgomery and Melba Angeline Clifford. He learned a lesson when he was young from his father and that lesson helped form his philosophy of life. That was to work hard, do your very best and then accept things without complaining. He started working at a young age to help his father and mother provide for the large family and then later enlisted in the U.S. navy and served on the U.S.S. Waller, a naval destroyer, during World War II. He was married and sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to Helen Beth Heaton October 3, 1940. They were blessed with four children. Cliff was a hard worker and very independent. During most of his working years, he was self-employed in his own businesses. At one time he developed one of the largest mobile home franchises in southern Idaho. Cliff became a pilot and loved to fly family and friends to various destinations around the country. Nearly everyone has a flying story to tell about his or her experience with Cliff. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with family members. In his later years he became an avid reader and particularly enjoyed reading the scriptures and historical novels. He also became actively engaged in genealogical research and family history. Cliff was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many different capacities. He and his wife Helen served in the Boise Temple for many years and also served a mission for the Church. He was known for his eager willingness to help anyone in need and provide service wherever needed. He was active and energetically involved in work and helping others until his late eighties. His life was filled with service to his family, friends and anyone who needed it. He will be missed by all who knew him. Cliff is survived by his wife Helen Montgomery of Boise, Idaho; a brother, Vernon B. Montgomery of Ontario, Oregon; four sisters, Donna R. Warner of Boise, Idaho, Roma M. Whipple of Nampa, Idaho, Velma J. Laney of Boise, Idaho and Iris Jeanette Evenson of Nampa, Idaho; his children Gary L. Montgomery, Robert C. Montgomery, Kathryn Smith and Michael T. Montgomery, all of Boise-Meridian, Idaho; eighteen grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.
