For 89 years (parts of it our lives; all of it hers), we were blessed to have shared Helen Faye Ewing. She passed away, quietly, at home with family early Tuesday morning. Those closest to her are bound to miss being told what to do and exactly how to do it. Somehow, all will agree they wouldn't have wanted Helen any other way. While you always knew what she felt and where you stood with her, Helen had a gift for delivering her message with an undertone that left you knowing she cared about you - deeply. Her husband, each of her girls, all of her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and any friend knew their importance to her. In Helen's lifetime that love was returned many, many fold. Born Helen Faye Miller, she married the strapping young Frank Ewing on Sep. 2, 1941, in Yakima, Washington. For 69 years, Helen and Frank grew and nurtured a love like most only dream of. Together, they found great joy in the simple pleasures of life - family, friends and fishing. Constant companions, Helen and Frank shared countless adventures whether in the mountains, square dancing or quietly enjoying good-old music on TV. Helen and Frank began their family in Butte, Montana. They had three daughters; Linda Wheeler Carr (Kermit), Patty Tschirgi Edwards Lane, and baby Margaret Ann who died shortly after birth. While in Butte, Helen kept their flat spotless and girls shiny as Frank worked in the copper mines. The couple saved every penny so they could build their first home in the Butte area. Later, the family moved to Kuna where they had a family farm and later owned the Fruitland filling station as they finished raising the girls. Once the girls were married, they moved to Caldwell and later they built their last home in the country East of Nampa. Helen was immensely proud of each of the girls and basked in their many successes and, as is often necessary, comforted them through their challenges. Willing to boss in so many other arenas, she instead served as a willing listener when the girls had struggles. Seldom did a day pass that she didn't see or speak to either Linda or Patty (or both). At peace in the mountains, Helen and Frank fished and camped whenever possible. On almost all occasions, they did it together. Over the years, they made special time and special times for their daughters and each of their children. Each grandchild holds a special memory of the many times that grandpa and grandma took them camping and fishing. Each of the same grandchildren hold the special belief - cultured by Helen over decades of special talks - that he/she was loved and is the very, very most special. For each child/grandchild it was easy to believe because that is exactly how Helen made them feel. It was the same for her friends - they knew that Helen truly cared for them. And for none did she care more than for Frank. When he passed, she was sure that she'd not last 5 hours, 5 days or 5 months without him. After over 5 years, Frank's real-life angel returns to him. Helen was born May 16, 1926 in St. Mary's, Kansas, to Guy Miller and Mary Lucretia Murphy Miller, the fifth of seven children. Frank and Helen loved square dancing and regularly ballroom danced at the Elks, where she was a lifetime member of the Nampa Elks Club (#1389). Helen leaves her daughter Linda; eight grandchildren: Joe Wheeler, Christy Garner, John Edwards, Brad Wheeler, Scott Edwards, Shane Wheeler, Shannon Wheeler and Sheree Godfrey. She also leaves a legacy of 40 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Her siblings Bud, Peggy and Dorothy survive her. Helen was preceded in death by two brothers Dick and Dale; her sister Ula; her daughter Patty, her newborn daughter Margaret Ann, and three sons-in-law: John Tschirgi, Doug Edwards and Kenneth Wheeler. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa (467-7300) with a viewing at 9:00 a.m. prior to the services.
