Charles Joshua (CJ) Webb, 24, died after a 15-year struggle with cancer on the 6th of January 2018. He was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland to his parents Chip and Wendy Webb on June 14th 1993. CJ was the eldest child in his family and had a profound effect on his younger siblings (Brennan, Nathan, Christine, and Anna.) Because his father was in the military, he had the opportunity to live many places (Germantown, MD; Mountain Home, ID; Travis AFB, CA; RAF Lakenheath England; Colorado Springs, CO; and San Antonio, TX.) He made many true and lasting friendships through his travels. CJ loved to jump on the trampoline, swim, read, and play sports. He was a seeker of knowledge and especially loved science and read all types of literature. He was known as a deep thinker and had profound questions and thoughts. His second grade teacher said, "When CJ raises his hand I put my back against the wall." Also throughout his life, he was known for his "...dry and ever so clever humor." His struggle with cancer began at a young age and made his growing up years a challenge. In spite of missing more than a quarter of school from 5th grade on, he graduated with honors from Pine Creek High School in Colorado. There he was selected by the Mayor as one of the top 100 teens. Despite his physical ailments, CJ was overjoyed to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Salt Lake City North Mission. CJ's missionary service was a pivotal point in his life, teaching him to love others in spite of his own challenges. CJ said "I've learned so much from the mission. I have become something more. I have become happy with life; happy with myself. I know that God lives and that he desperately desires to bless us." After his mission, he continued his education studying molecular biology at BYU. CJ wrote, "I am studying a topic that I am passionate about and learned more beautiful things than I thought the galaxy contained." While working towards his degree CJ's disease ravaged on, causing pain and sapping his strength and energy. Often his friends and roommates did not know he was doing chemotherapy and radiation. His goal, however, was reached on October 21, 2017, when he received his bachelor's degree. CJ treasured the kind friends who surrounded and supported him as he pursued his dreams. When describing his post-mission life CJ said," Life for me has had higher peaks and lower valleys than I ever expected to experience. I have been blessed with many great people that I am proud to call friends. My family is one of the greatest most imperfect messes that I could ever be blessed with." CJ will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held in his behalf at 12 p.m., Saturday, January 13th at the LDS chapel located at 6575 South Eagle Road in Meridian, Idaho. The viewing will begin at 10:30. Immediately following the funeral, a short graveside service will be held at the Melba Idaho Cemetery. If you so wish, donations can be made in his name to the PheoPara Alliance. Pheopara.org
