Kathryn Marie Tovalin

At 5:15 in the morning on May 25, 2021, Kathryn Marie Tovalin was called home to Heaven while she slept at her home in Nampa, Idaho. She was 46 years old. Katie was born June 3, 1974 in Santa Barbara, California, to Harrison Carr and Sharon Martin. She grew up in Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley areas in California. She graduated Santa Ynez Valley High School in 1992 and continued her studies in business college. Kathryn was 19 years old when she gave her life to Christ and was saved. She married Fernando Tovalin on August 21, 1993 when they were both 19 years old. They had four children together: Jacob, Samantha, Benjamin, and Lauren. They moved from California to Idaho during the summer of 2015. Katie was known as a quiet, kind woman and a dear friend to many. She often said that being a wife and mother was her dream, and she lived it out, devoted to supporting and loving her family. She did the bookkeeping for several family businesses and homeschooled her children for many years. The words that will be said, printed and repeated will never do justice to the woman who lived a life that left such an indelible mark on the souls who knew her best. Katie was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on April 26, 2018 and was told she was unlikely to survive past a year. God blessed us with 3 more years after that diagnosis, defying the statistics. Those 3 years were full of cancer treatments ranging from standard of care to lifestyle changes, to clinical trials full of uncertainty. Throughout every new treatment and after every MRI result, Katie made it a point to trust in God with both the tragedies and the victories. God has used her as an example of the powerful effect of a woman striving to live for Him in any circumstance. Her memorial service will be held on her birthday, June 3, 2021, at 6:00pm, at New Hope Baptist Church in Nampa, Idaho. It will also be livestreamed on the New Hope Baptist Church's Youtube channel so that any friends or family unable to attend will be able to watch the service.
