Catrina J. Sanford

Catrina Latta-Sanford, age 49 of Kuna, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. She was born to Sherry Latta and Carl Latta of Twin Falls, ID on September 22, 1967 in Glendale Springs, CO and was raised in Twin Falls, ID. Catrina eventually left Twin Falls to live in Idaho City where she raised her three girls: Cathlina Sturgis, of Kuna, ID, Savannah Galena, of Montebello, CA, and Christina Powell, also of Kuna, ID. Later moving to the Boise area and lastly choosing Kuna as her home away from the mountains. Anywhere Catrina resided though, she made it "home" even more so, she had the kindest heart, being a sucker for a sob story, knowing all the while it was probably "bull" but that didn't stop her from taking others in anyway and giving them a feeling of home as well. Catrina was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 10 years. She was a strong woman and that showed as she was a 20 year breast cancer survivor and supported the Race for the Cure every year. In Catrina's short life she wore many hats. Probably what she will be most remembered for was being a collector. She had a love of collecting random items, masks, ceramic tea pots, beanie babies, Native American decor, cookbooks and numerous other items. In her early 20's she attended nursing school, fulfilling her lifelong dream of caring for others, before being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993. Cancer of course didn't take her down, probably made her stronger, more resilient. According to her husband, even after cancer she could out log almost any man out there. That was one of the things we all appreciated and loved Catrina for. Catrina had strength from within and a love for life. From boating and fishing to woodcutting and traveling and enjoying the warm sunshine, she did it with her best effort. She was very active and loved being in the woods. Didn't matter what she was doing, above all she loved the time that she spent with Martin and her children and grandchildren. Between her, Martin and her daughters they made quilts for Martin's daughters, friends, family, totaling at least 20 quilts. Although family and friends consistently remained Catrina's first love, grandchildren really were her biggest passion. Grandmother was by far her most favorite role and raising Mahleah and babysitting her grandchildren was her most treasured position in life. She liked doing lots of things with them when she was feeling up to it. She'd sneak Zaya M&Ms as often as she could. Mahleah and her spent time doing puzzles. When Dakota was here she'd play with all of the grandchildren outside on the trampoline. Catrina liked planning something fun to do with them, swimming, slip n' slides, video games, and kid movies, anything fun to make lasting memories. Catrina was preceded in death by her mother Sherry Latta; her sister Carlina Latta; and brother Carl Latta Jr. It's a nice thought thinking that she is visiting with them right now as we all remember her. Catrina is survived by her greatest love of 27 years, Martin Sanford; his daughters and grandchildren; and Catrina's three daughters: Cathlina, Savannah, and Christina; her grandchildren, Mahleah, Dakota, Bryleigh, Isaac, and Zaya. Catrina also leaves behind her father, Carl and her brother Billy Stout; as well as numerous loving relatives and friends. A celebration of life for Catrina will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, with a viewing from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the services. Family and loved ones are invited to come and share memories and to say their "see you later". Catrina's bishop will speak. The family wishes to thank all of those who have sent support, well wishes and prayers. Donations may be made to the GoFundMe account to assist in costs occurred from this unexpected event. We would like to give a special thanks to Catrina's bishop and ward for the help provided during his difficult time.
