Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, Carol H Homer Hanes, age 53, returned to live with her Heavenly Father on February 8, 2017. She loved serving others and touched many with her Christ like spirit, loving smile, generosity, and kindness. Carol was born in Soda Springs, Idaho, on January 28, 1964, to Philip T. and Bernice Homer. The family later moved to Hailey, Idaho, where Carol spent her childhood, graduating from Wood River High School in 1982. Carol showed her school spirit by participating on the cheer squad, band, and choir and was a National Honor Society member. She enjoyed the beauty of the valley by learning to ski. She was always an avid reader, loved playing her piano, and enjoyed camping with family and friends in the Sawtooth Mountains. Carol attended Rick's College in Rexburg, Idaho, and graduated with an Associate Degree. She then went on to attend the Idaho State University School of Vocational - Technical Education, earning a certificate in Office Occupations. From there she started her working career in Pocatello, later moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. While working in Salt Lake, she met the love of her life, Robert Hanes. They were married in the Jordan River LDS Temple on April 20, 1991, and were sealed in the Jordan River LDS Temple on August 10, 1991. Rob and Carol loved the Salt Lake Valley but felt a desire to be closer to family. In 1992, Rob and Carol moved to Meridian, Idaho, where they started their family by welcoming Kevin and Tiffany into this world. Carol loved her children deeply and always put them first. As Kevin and Tiffany grew she loved watching them play soccer and then later basketball, volleyball and choir. She never missed a game or concert and being with her children were her happiest times. She was very proud of her children as Kevin served a mission, and Tiffany grew into an amazing and beautiful woman. Kevin married Jocee Hatch and later blessed Carol and Rob with their first grandchild, Kyrie. This little spirit was the best gift bringing Carol many laughs and much needed smiles. Her love for family extended to her nieces and nephews. She made family her priority and attended many sporting events and concerts as well as just spending time loving each of them. Carol worked for the West Ada School District in the library at Meridian Middle School and later at Rocky Mountain High School. The library was a perfect place to share her love of reading and books. She also taught piano in her home sharing her love of music. Carol was a dedicated and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held several callings in the Young Women's and Primary. She was always willing to provide accompaniment by playing the organ or the piano. She loved serving others and touched many with a Christ like spirit, the ability to see the good in people and was always nonjudgmental. The love and compassion that Carol had for others was returned to her in messages, letters and visits from friends and family. Her testimony and knowledge that Families are Forever remained strong, and she comforted her family and friends through her final days here on earth. Carol passed quietly at home with her family, after a courageous battle with breast cancer on February 8, 2017. Carol is survived by her immediate family: husband Robert Benson Hanes, her son Kevin Robert Hanes and his wife Jocee, granddaughter Kyrie, and daughter Tiffany Amy Hanes, her loving parents Philip T and Bernice Homer, siblings Michael (Susan) Homer, Kimberly (Christopher) Tower, Brian (Julie) Homer, her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins whom she loved so dearly. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11 at the Tully Park Ward LDS building, 5501 N. Meridian Road in Meridian. A viewing will be held at the church Friday, February 10, from 6 to 8:00 p.m. and again at the church from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday, prior to the services. Carol has requested that she return to the Wood River Valley, "after all it is a beautiful place to be."
